During black history month, the MSBDA brought attention to the call for donors of African descent. This was to raise awareness about sickle cell disease - a hereditary blood disorder disproportionately common among black communities. Patients suffering from this disease require repeated blood transfusions which can lead to adverse reactions with time. When the blood donor and receiver share similar genetic profiles, these reactions can be minimized. Check out our "How to Donate" tab to donate today!
